The Home for Handicapped Children and Young People in Veternik is the social welfare type of institution. There are 600 protégés included in the system of direct care and protection. Their age ranges from 3 to 54 and there are 254 teachers, members of medical staff, nurses, skilled craftsmen and other employees who work with them. The Home takes complete and permanent care of physically and mentally handicapped children and young people. It is their home and their true family. Children and young people who are moderately, severely and very severely handicapped are provided with room, lodging and clothing in the Home in Veternik. This is where they rejoice, work, create, recreate themselves and get their treatment and rehabilitation. This is the place from which they go to picnics and to visit their biological relatives or friends and this is where they return after that. This is where they host and see off the guests from all over the world. The Home carries out its activities within three organisational units: Rehabilitation Department, Department for Health Care, Nursing and Hygiene and Department for Legal-Administrative, Financial and Other Administration Tasks. The Home is financed out of a number of sources. A part of funds it gets from the Republic budget of the Government of Serbia, another part from domestic and foreign donations and certain funds are also raised through their own work. Love for children, a noble ambition to provide them a pleasant and comfortable home, feeling for measure and a home-economics type of management put the Home in Veternik among representation institutions which can rarely be found even in other parts of the world. Everything grows in Veternik. Everything is nicer than yesterday and everything is planned so that tomorrow can be even better.
