According to the conceptual purpose this centre is unique in the field of institutional protection of mentally retarded persons. It is the example of how a specific form of living can be provided with humane conditions that represent a super structure of special pedagogical doctrine, the conditions that educated themselves and ensure the right to a decent human existence.
The arrival of protégés in the imaginatively and classrooms equipped for special purposes is accompanied by a suitable ritual in the interest of establishment of habits of punctuality, personal tidiness and desirable social interactions. In a cosy atmosphere of personal-spatial relations the protégés experience the feeling of safety, personal importance, cosiness and pleasure. All this contributes to solving of their numerous inhibition factors and a number of frustrations that demand a long-term alleviation and removal. At first sight one could say that each of these classrooms is a unit itself. Still, many aspects and contents of work intertwine in them and richly supplement one another. The speech therapist, psychologist, teachers of art and music introduce their professional experience into this complementary work. They work with protégés on development of their acoustic, haptic, visual and spatial perceptions, as well as on aesthetic education and personal determination of sense-mobility development.
The upper floor part of the "Hannelore" Centre represents a special unit dedicated to residence of socialised protégés who have previously gone through a complex process of rehabilitation in the Home. Not only that they can take care of themselves but they are also trained for diverse types of work cherished within the Home. There are four two-bed and three three-bed bedrooms upstairs, with comfortable bathrooms and cosy furniture. The central part of the upper floor is arranged as a large living room and dining room. A special corner is equipped as a small kitchen. There is also the equipment for laundry washing, drying and ironing.
Fifteen tenants of the "Hannelore" Centre accepted their new home with joy and pleasure. It is with great pride that they will invite guests into their home and offer them with coffee, juice or talk with them in their beautiful living room. The building was designed by the company BMK-inzinjering, Novi Sad (Mr Dragan Denda, architect). The company DOO "Salajka", Novi Sad, Civil Engineering Company "Gitros", Novi Sad and the company "Elbing" from Backa Palanka participated in construction.
