The Home in Veternik accommodates 600 children and young people with handicaps, of the age from 3 to 25, namely to 44. However, girls and women who are trained for certain jobs stay permanently in the Home, regardless their age. This is where their life is organised and where care is taken of their needs in general.

In the process of rehabilitation of protégés both social and health care are included, as well as educational and work-rehabilitation programmes.

Practical experience proved that complex problems of mentally retarded persons cannot be solved only through forms of treatment carried out by special education teachers. What is necessary is teamwork of experts from different professions. It is also necessary to have the co-operation with the parents.

Educational work is carried out through the following activities: development of speech and language, level of knowledge on natural and social surroundings, development of psycho-mobility, physical and health education, musical education, education in art, self-servicing.
